Still looking

The other week I spoke to a friend who assumed Warren had found a new job since it had been awhile now and I hadn't mentioned anything about it. So I wanted to update anyone who might care: we're still looking. Believe me, the day we have good news to share I will share it! In the mean time he has been working back at his old firm as a contract attorney (long story, call me if you're interested), but not full time hours. They're still not sure about their case load for the future and whether they'd have enough cases to hire him back full time (hence the contract for a few months at a time). But somehow between his part time work and being a Bishop it still feels like he has a full time job to us. We're staying positive though and hopeful that something will work out soon. In fact, that is part of why I haven't written anything about it all these months. In my desire to have faith and trust in the Lord I have decided the only thing I can really do about it is to be cheerful and positive, showing that I trust in His plan for us. So far things have worked out. He's been doing the part time work for 5 months now and so bit by bit things carry on.

Thanks for caring!

Stress+pain+a scare=chocolate chip cookies

I'm a wreck. I've just had a most stressful two weeks. Family visitors, a grandma with a broken arm, a variety of issues to be dealt with (which is why the family visitors were here in the first place-the stresses were actually more the issues at hand than the visitors themselves), and a new calling for Warren (Young Men's President). And then yesterday I walked backwards into the pole handle of the wheelbarrow in the driveway. It's on the exact opposite side of my knee and hurts like crazy. I don't think I've ever had a bruise quite like this one. I couldn't even bend my leg last night without terrible pain. Note to self: Don't walk backwards without checking out the path first.

I took a nap today and thought I was doing a lot better. I made c-c-cookies for the young men's activity for Warren. I had my grandma over for dinner again. Then we were outside saying goodbye to her. I was clipping some roses, the kids were running around. My grandma was still talking to us. When suddenly Joseph wasn't right next to me. I looked around to realize he was practically in back of the neighbor's car and the neighbor was backing up. He wasn't literally behind the van, but one or two more steps and he would have been. I screamed and ran. I got there in time and luckily Joseph didn't move. I apologized to the neighbor. I promised I would do a better job watching. I went inside and cried and cried. This was definitely a wake up call. It was one of those times where he had been right next to me a few seconds before.

I think I need a vacation. But I guess some chocolate chip cookies will have to do.

Those flashing lights...

I dropped my mom off at LAX today. She has her "secret way" of wanting to be dropped off at the arrival terminal instead of the of the departure terminal, because that way you get a free cart from someone who has just been picked up and left their luggage cart behind. She told me to pull up behind a bus that was stopped. It was a red zone. I was trying to figure out where the place was to actually pull into the terminal. If you've ever picked up or dropped off someone at LAX you know how crazy it is there. She saw a cart and I said, "Just get out and I'll figure out where to go." She got out and wanted to unload her stuff. I said: "But mom, it's a red zone!" She said: "Just pop the trunk." As an obedient daughter of course I popped the trunk. She took out her stuff, waved goodbye and we were off. Then I saw those flashing lights. I was being pulled over. My first time ever. Oh no. The officer told me he had pulled me over for stopping in a red zone. MOM!!!!!!! If I get a ticket.... He took my license, came back, looked around my car and inside, told me Joseph's crossbar needed to be higher, then told me to drive safely and I was off. Since he didn't hand me anything I presume it was just a warning, although he never specifically said that. It was already an emotional enough experience, dropping my mom off after a month of post funeral activities etc. My grandma was in the car, this is her first day alone without one of her kids since my grandpa fell and passed away... I've had visitors for basically three months straight...I'm totally worn out. All I needed was to be pulled over for obeying my mother! But I think I'm off the hook and maybe next time I'll just be a little more rebellious.
